Mayo not out for season

Rumor has it that he will be out for a few weeks with a sprained MCL in his knee. At least that is the rumor. Belichick, being his usual, talkative self, let no information go at the press conference today.

This could be worse, although I'd be much happier if he were healthy. Let's hope that everyone else can adjust.

The Patriot Way

Here' s a little insight into why the Pats are just such a good football team with an example that makes the Jets look bad. So you knew I was going to post it:

'There is a laundry list of players who get drafted higher than their college production dictates based upon their physical prowess. The New York Jets selected physical wunderkind Vernon Gholston with the sixth overall pick last year based more upon his freakish combination of size and speed than his inconsistent production at Ohio State. The Patriots, on the other hand, took Tennessee linebacker Jerod Mayo with the 10th pick. He was the NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year. Gholston was a non-factor.'

If they've named a whole approach to scouting after you, you know you're good.

Make that 100%

Seeing as there are no 'extra credit' AP voters, Jerod Mayo scores perfect.

Jerod Mayo wins Defensive Rookie of the Year

Sweet.

And he got the vote from 49/50 voters, making him an A+ Rookie of the Year. Love that kid.

How many yards???

Reiss breaks it down really nicely:

The Patriots got 511 (!) net yards.

Matt Cassel threw for 400 of those. He ran for 62 of those. He also had 30 completions.

Wes Welker caught 7 for 108 yards. Watson had 88. Keller, that infamous #81 on the Jets, had 87.

Mayo ruled the field with 20 tackles, although we probably all noticed that.

Gostkowski set a personal record for most field goals in a season (24). If he gets to 32, he'll beat the club record. In a way, I want to see him do this. In a way, I really don't because I want to see more touchdowns.
